Divorce Cakes?

Published by carolinecloutier at 11:13 pm under Advice, News Edit This

divorcecake.jpgOk I realize I’m supposed to be writing about getting married and not getting out of marriage, however when I opened the Life section of my local paper, I couldn’t draw my eyes away from the article reading “Divorce Cakes. Tiers of Joy”.

Seriously. A Divorce Cake? What has our society come to, to celebrate the event of a divorce? What ’s the point anymore to even get married if getting divorced is so easy and so glorified? To be honest, Hollywood has ruined the romantic and glamorous image of a ‘lawful union’, for us all.

The article I came across details how women are now ‘celebrating’, the fact that they are getting divorced. The picture on the front is none other than Travis Barker’s (formal Blink 182’s) ex wife Shannon Moekler, receiving her very own (and first?) Divorce Cake! Why would this be celebrated? Being a bridesmaid myself several times, how upset would I be if the wedding I just spent many dollars on, was now over? What is seriously the point? Are people just seeking an easy way out of such a sacred union? Is it that people simply aren’t trying anymore and are finding any way to fill the gap they feel in their personal lives by none other than a slice of cake? Why even bother getting married if you arent’ going to at least give it an honest go?

Hopefully this is just one of those fads we see on MTV. Hopefully people start taking the union of marriage a little more seriously and start trying just as hard on their marriage as they do on their careers.
